The purpose of the paper is not only to explain what trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation is and the different ways of combating it but also and mainly to understand why there is a discordance between what is normative and what actually happens in reality. It is a complex crime in the sense that it functions as a transnational organised crime that constantly and systematically violates human rights which our society lives with every day. It is a centuries-old crime but it is also true that in recent times there has been a great development at the international level to combat it. It is a fight that many countries have joined including our own. However this progress has remained mostly at the normative level as it has not been possible to effectively eliminate the crime.
