When a professor of cybernetic robotics fails to convince his colleagues that a machine with full consciousness and independent volition is possible he takes matters into his own hands by having his brain transplanted into a war satellite. In the meantime he is pursued by a ghostly shadow lingering always just on the periphery of his consciousness. Just what or who could it be?
