Traitors in the Vorkuta Gulag is a continuation of the Traitors Series of historical novels. The protagonists are meant to give the reader a sense of fluency and understanding of the painfully onerous conditions that existed in Nazi Germany during the Hitler administration and the Holocaust. The Vorkuta Gulag was 100 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle in Siberia. The rail line from Moscow travelled almost 1000 kilometers north of the city. There were no roads to the gulag. The few roads in the city of Vorkuta had to be resurfaced every year because of the permafrost just below the surface. The fear and intimidation and the system of repression and punishment that the Gulag system of incarceration represented terrorized the entire Russian society. The death of Stalin in 1953 and the rise of President Gorbachev in 1985 ameliorated and resulted in the dissolution of the Gulag system of slave labor camps.Words alone cannot possibly convey the climate of fear and intimidation that citizens of the Soviet Union endured from the time of Lenin and Stalin and perhaps even now under the current Putin administration. This novel brings to the reader a glimpse of the cruelty and abhorrently difficult circumstances suffered by much of the innocent population of the Soviet Union.
