Power is a very well known phenomenon and taking into consideration its importance and manifestations in everyday life and in political contexts it is no wonder that philosophy and various social sciences have largely been dealing with it. The research of power described in this book however offers a different and perhaps less familiar perspective of power: power viewed through literary lenses. It shows that literature offers interpretations which undermine the common views of power – through the linguistic style through the relation of the characters with their environment as well as through the topics the literary works deal with. This book deals with situations in which the characters simultaneously have and do not have power where they do not have power but they do have authority where they do not have influence but they do have capability where they show resistance in spite of their weaknesses.
