About The Book

This book is a collection of four essays on translation theories and practice from Arabic perspective. The first essay “Appropriation in Literary Translation” was the topic of an oral presentation I gave as a participation in the Translation Day held by the Faculty of Al Alsun (Languages) Ain Shams University on 2nd March 2015. The second essay “Nizar Qabbani’s “Balqis”: Translation into English with an introduction” was published in Forum: International journal of interpretation and translation Seoul: Presses de la Sorbonne Nouvelle KSCI 2009. The third essay “Farouq Goweda’s “A Letter to Bush from a Bosniak Girl”: Translation into English with an Introduction” was published in Fikr Wa Ibda Egypt 2011. The fourth essay “Against World Literature: The Egyptian Mawwăl of Shafiqa and Metwally in the Age of Untranslatability” was published in Cairo Studies in June 2014. The first essay is a theoretical frame and each of the three essays starts with an introduction that focuses on translation issues. Footnotes are provided in order to clarify whatever might seem ambiguous for the target reader. Each essay was documented according to the guide for author provided by each journal.
