Traumatic Experience in Diabetic Amputees

This research analyzes the psychological impact of amputation on diabetics affecting their identity and body schema. The study reveals that amputation profoundly disrupts self-image and self-esteem making identity reconstruction difficult. However some patients overcome this ordeal through strategies such as identifying with their social status or religious beliefs. Family support and psychological guidance are essential to help accept the new body image and restore self-esteem. A holistic therapeutic approach that takes into account personal social and contextual factors is key to successful rehabilitation.
