With his wife Susan and their three children in tow they embarked on a seventeen-day boat journey to their first destination in Mato Grosso Brazil with the South American Indian Mission. During their years abroad Harris and Susan added two children to their family while experiencing Indian fights an appendicitis attack epidemics chronic disease serious accidents and AIDS.
