On 25th of August 1989 as Voyager 2 flew over Neptune's north pole and six hours later had a short rendezvous with the exciting moon Triton the cameras on board Voyager 2 saw a moon which enthralled and astounded scientists back on Earth. Almost four hours after the highest resolution photos had been taken by the cameras on board Voyager 2 the scientists at JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory) saw a world which seemed to encapsulate fragments of all the other ice moons in the Solar System. There was a south pole consisting of nitrogen ice/methane ice active volcanoes collapsed volcanoes some craters strange terrain furrows valleys and ridges. Most of these geological features had been observed on several of the moons which Voyager 2 had flown by on its twelve years long journey through the Solar System. This final encounter with a fascinating world was indeed a fantastic final ending to a long journey which had enhanced Earth science and its knowledge of the outer Solar System. This book is illustrated throughout with more than 60 color photographs.
