It's not only a catharsis for the author or artist you influence entertain inform educate inspire touch the lives of perhaps change it as well for the better maybe even save a life when you share your own journeys of triumphs and joy sorrow and laughter and healing for all readers. Secondly you keep the arts alive. What a gift that keeps on giving long after we're gone our words our art shall live on in the hearts of all those people who invested their time in you and your body of life's work. That to me is worth more than fame or fortune and the greatest reward.
