About The Book

Twilight on the Yamuna, traces the footsteps of Sandy, a young South Asian girl, whose search for love and truth brings her face to face with the harsh realities of a world no longer separated by stereotypes and presumptions. The novel retains a unique characterization that bridges literary and commercial fiction in a ‘mythic’ context, by drawing allusions between a ‘spiritual’ world, reflected in the narrator’s poetic oration at the beginning of each chapter, and the ‘contemporary’ society, reflected in the prose of the novel itself. At first glance, it is a tale of mystery and love but, upon closer inspection, it compels the more observant reader to ponder over the values and ideals that shape contemporary Indian, American, and Indian-American identities, in the United States, and back in India.
