Typology of vegetable farms in Central Benin

About The Book

The main objective of this study is to contribute to a better knowledge of the types of market gardening operations in Central Benin while inventorying the different irrigation techniques used in the area. To achieve this objective a survey was carried out on one hundred and three market gardeners selected by sampling. The data collected were subjected to tests of comparison of means with Minitab 16 and then to Multiple Correspondence Factorial Analysis (MCA) and Hierarchical Ascending Classification (HAC) with R. The results of the study showed that there was a significant difference (P<5%) only for the area planted in Zangnanado i.e. an average of 0.73±0.35 ha compared to 0.35±0.45 ha in Covè. For water management market gardeners use watering cans basins and bowls manual spraying and spraying with a tourniquet. As for the typology carried out it revealed six types of farms grouped into traditional farms producing only local vegetables and modern farms producing both local and exotic vegetables.
