About The Book

The current study is being carried out to identify the various clinical presentations of undescended testis to analyze the reliability of ultrasonography and diagnostic laparoscopy in identification of undescended testis and the efficacy of various surgical modalities for management of undescended testes. Cryptorchidism (from the Greek kryptos meaning hidden’ and orchis meaning ‘testes’) refers to the absence of a testes from the scrotum.1 Isolated cryptorchidism is the most common congenital anomaly of the male genitalia affecting almost 1% of the full term infants at the age of 1 year.1 Cryptorchidism is the term that has been used interchangeably with the term undescended testes. The abnormality assumes particular importance in cases of bilateral undescended testis where correct diagnosis and timely treatment can save patient from lifelong misery of sterility. In unilateral cases treatment is directed to prevent complications known to be associated with undescended testis. Highly retractile testis can often be mistaken for undescended testis. An ectopic testis may also be mistaken for an undescended testis.
