This book exclusively lists almost all the ancient SHAIVA temples of Udupi district. These temples were built between 7th and 16th centuries and patronised by Alupas Vijayanagara kings through their feudatories and Keladi kings. Available records suggest that Shaivism thrived for nearly ten centuries in the district and we are fortunate that many of those temples built back then survive and thrive today.
