<p><i>Ueber die Religion: Reden an die Gebildeten unter ihren Verächtern</i> or On Religion: Speeches to Its Cultured Despisers is a seminal work by Friedrich Schleiermacher originally published in 1799. This is the dritte Ausgabe (third edition) published in 1821.</p> <p>In this series of addresses Schleiermacher seeks to articulate the essence of religion to an educated audience skeptical of its value.
