Ukridge introduces readers to Stanley Ukridge a charming and ambitious but financially inept young man who is always cooking up grand schemes to make a fortune. The novel is narrated by J. P. (Jim) Herring Ukridge’s long-suffering friend and confidant. The story revolves around Ukridge’s various get-rich-quick schemes which often lead to amusing and precarious situations. Despite his best intentions Ukridge's plans are frequently thwarted by his own ineptitude the interference of well-meaning friends and the whims of fate. His schemes include a range of enterprises from launching a restaurant to more outlandish ventures all of which lead to comic escapades and misunderstandings.
