The conflict in the ideals presented in 'Ulka' represent the first half of the 20th century. Tara is the daughter of Bhausaheb he has remarried. He is idealistic. Tara is rebellious right from her birth. Tara is Bhausaheb's meteor ulka. He is a poor teacher and society has boycotted him. While growing Tara witnesses the good and bad things around her. She sees the staunch idealism of Bhausaheb and Chandrakant. She also notices the fraudulent nature of people around her.
