Ulysses of Ithaca

About The Book

Ulysses of Ithaca is an adaptation or translation of the classical epic The Odyssey by the ancient Greek poet Homer often presented with editorial input or re-interpretation by later authors such as Karl Friedrich Becker. Homer's Odyssey chronicles the adventurous and perilous journey of Odysseus (known as Ulysses in Latin) the King of Ithaca as he attempts to return home after the Trojan War. The epic explores themes of heroism loyalty and perseverance as Odysseus encounters gods monsters and other challenges over a span of ten years before finally reaching Ithaca. In Becker's version the story is typically condensed or rephrased for easier understanding while remaining faithful to the original narrative. The work serves as a retelling of Ulysses’ legendary voyage highlighting his encounters with mythical creatures like the Cyclops the Sirens and the enchantress Circe as well as his struggles against divine forces like Poseidon who seeks to prevent his return. At the heart of the tale is Ulysses’ longing to reunite with his wife Penelope and his son Telemachus which drives much of the action in the epic.
