This short booklet tries to answer to an implicit and inevitable question: what would remain of the original design of Chandigarh? How would the Chandigarh of the second Millennium still be the theoretical Chandigarh from 1950? The author an italian architect and designer answers that question underlying how in Chandigarh the merge between natural and artificial organisms and the social one it is total pervasive and permanent. The three things are no longer separable. They exist in a unique sphere and into this lives Le Corbusier along with his active memory. If it is true as Ettore Sottsass said in contemplating the empty building of Ahmedabad that no idea no matter how powerful survives time perhaps the idea of a city survives only if it becomes time itself if it is time in its essence more than space. I believe that at Chandigarh this happened miraculously: the powerful hand of Le Corbusier from one side and the Indian zest for life on the other create something authentic and impossible to imagine before and to replay in any future.
