<p>This book is the first volume / first book of this collection called MuzhuMahabharatham i.e. Unabridged Mahabaratham in Tamil. This collection contains chapters 1 to 223 of Adiparva the first Parva of the Mahabharata. Adiparvam consists of 236 Chapters. The remaining 13 Chapters will be covered in the next volume.</p><p>Mahabharata is said to be the fifth Veda. Megasthenes a Greek traveler sent to Chandragupta Mauryan's court by Seleucus Nicador in the 3rd century tells of the Mahabharata character Krishna. References to the Mahabharata are found in Silapathikaram in Tamil Pathiruppattu 14:5-7 Sirupanatrupadai 238-241 and Kalithogai 25 52 101 104 108. Nalavenpa Alli Arsani Mala etc are sub-stories of Mahabharata. So are the Sagunthalam and Yayati in the north. The oldest text of the Mahabharata dates back to 400 BC. It is also believed that the version may have been completed during the Gupta period. The Mahabharata is ten times the size of the Iliad and the Odyssey combined. Mahabharata is the greatest literary work in the world in terms of volume and content.</p><p>Centering on Kisari Mohan Ganguli's work which scholars say is the closest English translation to the original this MuzhuMahabharatham was made by comparing with the &nbsp;English versions of Manmadanatha Dutha the critical edition of Bibek Debroy and the Tamil Kumbakonam version giving various footnotes in various places.</p>
