UNIVERSITY LIBRARY ETHICS

It deals with professional ethics within the libraries of public universities based in Florianópolis. The objective was to know the ethical fundamentals found in the speeches expressed by professional librarians in office. To conceptually ground the research was sought through a literature review an understanding of the theme and the study environment. For the theoretical basis the aspects of the theory of social construction of reality and the theory of social representations were considered adequate. The research is qualitative of the exploratory type. The approach is phenomenological. The instruments for data collection were: the questionnaire for the characterization of the participants the interview for the collection of speeches and a field diary. For the tabulation of the data the Technique of the Collective Subject Discourse was used. In this way the representations found value the ethical behavior but not without discrediting the common occurrence of such behavior. It is also verified the unpreparedness in the process of basic and professional education of such librarians. The value attributed to the impact of the profession on society is low.
