Unsaturated soils and dilatancy stability

About The Book

Statistical tools and techniques used in soil problem solving methods that take into account its variability are the basis for the quality of the resulting solution. The present work is devoted to the evaluation of the effect of spatial variability of permeability on flows in porous media. The comparison between the solutions of the different variability cases highlighted the gap between the homogeneous and the heterogeneous cases. The problems related to the stability of slopes generally do not take into account the effect of the angle of expansion on the behavior and the sliding of slopes. In order to evaluate the effect of this dilatancy we carried out two different analyses at the end of which we found that the angle of dilatancy of the material plays an important role in the parts subjected to shear and this by amplifying the angle of friction of the material thus conferring a better resistance to the shear of the material.
