Rudi Puchta from the point of view of Dresdner Bank AG outlines the organizing of financial institutions in the new federal states. In his capacity as Member of the Board of Dresdner Bank Kreditbank AG he played a crucial role in his banks organizational work. In the first pI ace he features the banking scenario in what was the GDR and then describes the dual strategy ofDresdner Bank which as from the institution ofthe D-Mark as legal tender on 1 July 1990 found itself in a position to commence business in 35 branch offices of its own and another 72 offices under its joint venture contract. Mr Puchtas description of the advantages and difficulties genera ted by said dual strategy is intermingled with experience and knowledge which he gained in his practical work in Dresden.
