The book focuses on the population dynamics molecular identification and eco-friendly management of the stem fly Melanagromyza sojae a newly recorded pest infesting black gram (Vigna mungo L.) in India. Study revealed the pest's seasonal incidence patterns and the influence of key weather factors on its infestation. Through DNA barcoding the pest was accurately identified and reported for the first time on black gram in the country. The research demonstrated that early sowing significantly reduced pest damage and increased yield. Among various cultivars tested SKNU-12-07 SKNU-15-01 and SKNU-15-02 were found resistant to M. sojae. Intercropping black gram with maize or sorghum proved effective in suppressing infestation while seed treatments with imidacloprid 600 FS and thiamethoxam 30 FS markedly improved pest control. The study provides comprehensive insights into the population dynamics identification and integrated management of M. sojae offering practical solutions for sustainable black gram production.
