The book tells the story of the development of land for Navi Mumbai. It is the largest planned City in India occupying an area of 344 square kilometers which is located in a coastal area across Mumbai harbour. The book reveals why we could get only partial success. It also shows that it is possible to make a city flood free. The book also draws attention to the need for long-term environmental & economic sustainability of the stormwater management and pitfalls of frequent policy changes particularly about Environmental and Urban Design. It highlights the importance of in-depth analysis of local data rather than relying on ready-made solutions feasible elsewhere in infrastructure projects. The book is the first of its kind to talk about the engineering intricacies involved in planning the Urban Storm water Drainage and Land Reclamation.
