This book on Urban Poverty Inequalities and Capability Deprivations Investigates the association between three interrelated variables namely levels of human capability development in relation to urban housing and health conditions and how the three variables are associated in determining urban poverty levels. A main emphasis of the book is to illustrate the interrelationship between urban poverty and human capability levels. The book analyses urban poverty from a human capability approach as an analytical framework to describe/explain how urban social arrangements contribute to social inequalities in access to entitlements and expansion of freedoms of individuals to function in ways that could improve the quality of life in urban areas. The book explores levels of human capability elements attained by surveyed households in the case study area investigates main factors that contribute to failure of some households to attain underling capabilities which are essential for reducing poverty in urban areas. The book is based on a study that was undertaken in peri-urban Dar-es-Salaam the capital city of Tanzania.
