Turkey is a neighbouring and bordering country in the southeastern wing of the EU. Again the EU is uninterrupted by roads to the Far East with the Northern European route. The EU supplies large quantities of goods from the Far East. Turkey must create an alternative subroute structure to this flow of goods. In this respect the EU transport system is very important to Turkey. The Mediterranean''s historic position within the world trade axis is a matter of fact. The EU is pursuing an intensive transport policy on land in Western Europe and in the Mediterranean by sea.
