US-Nigeria Relations and the Politics of Charles Taylors Asylum

About The Book

Little effort has been made to understand the United States government support for the asylum granted to Charles Taylor by Nigeria and her sinister motive to make Taylor vulnerable to account for his crimes against humanity. More fundamentally the impact of the asylum granted to Charles Taylor and its ramifications on international law of asylum has not been properly investigated. This book is simply an answer to the above gaps in knowledge. It tries to capture the role US and Nigeria played in grating Charles Taylor asylum in Nigeria and the power play that underpinned it. The work traced the enduring US-Nigerian relations and how the interest of both countries clashed while trying to restore peace in Liberia. The work contains a series of horse-trading while the peace process lasted in Liberia. In addition it is designed to ensure that leaders in developing countries notably Nigeria be aware that in international politics especially in relation to the “powerful” countries the power parity is brutally unequal. The book also promotes scholarship by touching upon a wide range of issues on asylum an area so popular yet scholarly blunt in terms of availability of literature.
