The book is one of the first studies in Russian science to reveal the phenomenon of unilateralism and multilateralism in transatlantic relations. The work provides a classification of various expert assessments offered by representatives of political and academic circles of the United States and European countries. It is based on the positions of experts on the issue of what should be the level of American commitment to international institutions and to what extent U.S. actions should be consistent with the views of traditional American partners and allies in Europe. Taking into account the ambiguity of interpretations of the concepts unilateralism and multilateralism by representatives of different schools and directions of the theory of international relations the author has conducted a critical analysis of foreign concepts with the support of factual data and using scientific methodology.
