Utilisation of FACTS Devices in Power System

FACTS devices are effective to enhance the security capacity and flexibility of power transmission systems. This book briefs about the Unified power flow controller (UPFC) is the most comprehensive multivariable flexible AC transmission system and FACTS controller enhances real and reactive power control for the effective real-time functioning of the power system without power losses. UPFC enables independent and simultaneous control of a transmission line voltage impedance and phase angle. In steady state the UPFC can be used to regulate the power flow through the line and improve utilization of the existing transmission system capacity and during power system transients the UPFC can be used to mitigate power system oscillations.
