Vanadium Oxide Thin Films

About The Book

This work explores the preparation and electrochromic properties of vanadium oxide (VO) thin films developed using the innovative pulsed spray pyrolysis technique (PSPT). Electrochromic materials which exhibit tunable optical properties in response to electrical stimuli hold significant potential for energy-efficient technologies particularly smart windows. These windows can reduce energy consumption by modulating light and heat transmission offering an environmentally sustainable solution for buildings and vehicles. The study focuses on optimizing PSPT for thin film deposition and enhancing electrochromic performance through doping with tungsten (W) and molybdenum (Mo). Comprehensive analysis of structural optical and electrochemical properties revealed that films deposited at an optimized substrate temperature of 400C demonstrated superior coloration efficiency high reversibility and excellent durability. The findings underline PSPT''s practicality as a cost-effective and scalable method for producing high-quality electrochromic films paving the way for their broader adoption in smart window applications.
