Vegetation survey of Kibira National Park

About The Book

The overall aim of this study is to create a database for monitoring habitat population and species dynamics in KNP management. Analyses focused on floristic composition biological forms phytogeographical elements physiognomy stand density basal area litter and habitat dynamics. The floristic inventory yielded 166 species in 132 genera and 73 families. Dendrogram analysis revealed a clear dissimilarity between sites. The specific quotient values found (1.06 - 1.14) testify to the maturity of the flora in the study area. Analysis of biological forms reveals the dominance of phanerophytes at all sites (69% of the raw spectrum and 93.3% of the weighted spectrum). In terms of phytogeographical distribution montane species occupy first place with 42.7% of the gross spectrum showing that the study area belongs to the afromontane domain. Structural analysis shows the existence of 5 strata. In terms of habitat dynamics the sites surveyed are at different stages of evolution.
