Venetias Leben ändert sich als sie zwei Männer kennenlernt: Lord Cadurcis einen berühmten Dichter und Marmion Herbert ihren Cousin und die uneheliche Sohn Lord Byron. </p><p>Der Roman ist eine Mischung aus Romantik Satire und Melodram und bietet Einblicke in die gesellschaftlichen und politischen Verhältnisse des 19. Jahrhunderts.
