Geographically Vietnam has an exceptional position on the South China Sea a communication route between the Pacific and Indian Oceans and a major oil supply route for Japan. It is also the gateway to Singapore the main port in the region. Vietnam lies at the junction of Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia. Located in the heart of ASEAN one of the most dynamic regions in the world between China and India Vietnam often referred to as the new dragon has a remarkable economic dynamism. It is the thirteenth best performer in Asia over the last 20 years and its strong demographic growth makes it the 14th most populous country in the world. The country's potential is considered similar to that of China ten years ago.
