As in his first two books Robert Choulerton sets out his thoughts in measured eloquent English with a touch of 'liberated' vocabulary where necessary. Two aspects in particular inform his writing. From the detached point of view of the introvert he is personal and always candid; from his humanistic point of view he sees us not as God's chosen people but - the better to understand ourselves - as humanoid apes of evolutionary provenance.

To his credit he does not scorn Christianity but praises the comforts it can provide. Indeed in his musings far and wide he tempers disagreement with understanding.
