It was more than twenty-years in the making.How did you two come up with the idea for this science fiction epic?Robert Frazier: In the mid-eighties Bruce asked me for a story for Berkeley Poets Cooperative. I sent him a cautionary tale of a mutated creature from the waters of the Amazon. He liked the milieu: mutation and the jungle. I had previously explored their collision in two poems for Asimovs SF and Amazing Stories but Bruce insisted there were rich poetic possibilities still to be mined.
