Political discourse is inconceivable without evaluation. Firstly politics is a constant struggle: for attention for the realisation of one''s ideas for the voter etc. And the means to do so are evaluative units. Secondly everything that happens in politics has a direct impact on people''s living conditions. Therefore one looks at all socio-political processes through the prism of one''s interests needs aspirations. Hence there is an active qualitative and evaluative orientation towards the socio-political sphere. The main means of expressing evaluation in a language is lexis and phraseology. This monograph is devoted to the description of these units. Evaluative socio-political vocabulary and phraseology are considered in the light of contemporary political discourse i.e. taking into account the extra-linguistic factors which determine the specifics of meaning and functioning of the vocabulary (the political processes which swept Russia in the late 20th - early 21st century). The materials presented in the monograph may be of interest both to linguistic researchers and a wider range of readers.
