This book is an attempt to study the exploration of female self in negotiating space for her individual identity in a patriarchal society through Manju Kapus novels. Manju Kapur as a postcolonial writer in her works  authentically captures the new Indian woman’s voice . Being a woman Kapur is most interested in the predicament of women. Through all her works Manju Kapur criticizes the environment and not the individuals. Manju Kapur demonstrates that change in the social norms is a slow process and not a drastic and rapid one despite the fast-paced changes being witnessed in the spheres of economy and technology. Kapur does not conclude or limit the horizon of woman but opens a ray of hope and awareness to the coming generation.
