Volcanic Ash Crisis 2010 and Kenyan Cut Flower Supply Chain

About The Book

The effect of modern globalisation is so significant that a volcano eruption in Iceland can lead to unemployment of a farmer in Kenya. This book is looking at the predictability of the volcanic ash crisis of 2010 and its consequences for international supply chains with special emphasis laid on Kenyan flower supply chain. Kenyan cut flower industry incurred significant losses compared to other industries involved in the crisis due to its lack of resilience in the face of a force majeure. A couple of suggestions are made how to make Kenyan supply chain more robust and more prepared for supply chain disruptions of similar magnitude.
