About The Book

The book is part of a study that explored how water-user preferences are influenced by quality of water supplied to households’ in Obunga informal settlement of Kisumu town Kenya. Kisumu is situated in Western region of Kenya within Kisumu County. The town has a population of approximately 397957 people the Kenyan 2019 population census. Over the years Kisumu town has experienced resultant growth of informal settlements that are situated close to the town center. Kisumu has one of the highest proportions of residents living in informal settlements estimated at 49%. These settlements led by Obunga include Bandani Nyawita Otonglo Nyalenda A Nyalenda B Manyatta A Manyatta B Manyatta Arab Kaloleni and Kibos. It is estimated that 60% of households’ in Kisumu do not have access to fresh water and about 53% of the households’ lack adequate water supplies. About 62.3% of the water sources are not sustainable and the quality of water is generally poor not suitable for households’ use. Quantitative findings of this study are summarized in this book.
