Waterborne Polyurethanes from Cottonseed oil-based ionizable polyols

About The Book

In response to the global environmental policies a paradigm shift has been observed in the coating industry by replacing the conventional solvent based coatings with waterborne coatings. Recently waterborne polyurethane dispersions (PUDs) are gaining major importance as coatings and adhesives across the globe and successfully supersede their conventional solvent borne counterparts. However the majority of PUDs synthesized from petro-based polyols and suffering from low bio-content. Naturally available plant oils are the promising renewable resource to develop the polyols for PUD preparation. This book provides insights into the literature of waterborne polyurethane synthesis from vegetable oil-based polyols and gives the rationale for taking this work which formed the basis of the thesis. A new strategy “Ionizable polyols” has been taken for the synthesis of eco-friendly waterborne PUDs with enriched bio-content. This book written on the design and synthesis of waterborne PUDs from cottonseed oil-based ionizable polyols for coating applications has created a new path for future research on eco-friendly polyurethane coatings.
