Secondly a lot of cultures respect their elders and thirdly most countries have a little English due to colonialism and speak a mixture of English and their own language. A lot of schools have local teaching assistants. <br /><br />When she was tutoring a Korean boy his mother invited her to lunch and she said through a translator that she was Too old at forty to learn English herself. Monica reacted because she was in her late forties at the time. She started teaching overseas at the age of fifty.
