The author is of the view that weather index insurance if properly designed can go a long a way to ensure that farmers remain happy regardless of the weather conditions because they will feel secure when their crop is insured. The role of farmers in feeding the nations of the world cannot be overemphasised and it is the role of governments to ensure that policies that are formulated consider new ways of protecting the interests of farmers while sustaining productivity. Weather index insurance will definitely motivate the farmers to be risk takers and invest more in their agricultural activities.
