Weed management in pigeonpea based intercropping systems

The book has been written with the objective to identify most profitable pigeonpea based inter-cropping system and most efficient weed management practice for the inter-cropping system under rainfed condition. The book is based on the data obtained from two years long field experiment carried out with split plot design. The experiment comprised three inter-cropping systems (pigeonpea sole pigeonpea + greengram and pigeonpea + blackgram) as main plot treatment and six weed management practices(pre and post-emergence herbicides and their combinations) as sub plot treatment. Among weed management practices pre- emergence application of pendimethalin @ 1.0 kg a.i./ha followed by post- emergence imazethapyr @ 0.1 kg a.i./ha proved as the best weed management practice for pigeonpea based inter-cropping systems. While pigeonpea + blackgram inter-cropping system found as the most profitable system in terms of pigeonpea equivalent yield which recorded 1363 kg/ha pigeonpea equivalent yield as compared to 718 and 1226 kg/ha recorded by pigeonpea sole and pigeonpea + greengram respectively.
