About The Book

What Cyclone Fani Taught Us?. Extremely Severe Cyclone Fani was the strongest tropical cyclone to hit the Indian state of Odisha since 1999. Originating from a tropical depression that formed over the Indian Ocean on 26 April it was the first severe cyclonic storm of the 2019 North Indian Ocean cyclone season. Seven days later over 16 million people were affected when it made landfall in the Puri district of Odisha.. If you were in Odisha when the cyclone Fani hit it you probably still remember the events of that day. Early that morning rainfall and wind speed were still moderate but by the afternoon the storm had intensified and the capital city of Bhubaneswar was about to witness perhaps the longest blackout it had ever experienced…….. This book is an attempt to examine and understand the effects of the Fani cyclone on urban residents of Odisha focusing on the period immediately afterwards the cyclone when access to electricity and conventional water sources had temporarily come to a halt forcing people to adapt to this new environment. It explores the psychological factors for changes to human behavior that can occur after a natural disaster and how an individual’s present thinking is affected by their past experiences.. This book is also a tribute to thousands of unsung heroes who shielded us from Cyclone Fani. The sheer and robust determination of people and Government of Odisha and Government of India has proven that a cyclonic storm can only break physical infrastructures in Odisha but can never break the courage and will power of Odiyas. .
