About The Book

The essays that follow attempt to address the important issues that must be addressed if we are to speak about atonement in a manner that is faithful to the biblical narrative. Chapter One asks Is substitutionary atonement biblical? Chapter Two rehearses the traditional problems associated with substitutionary atonement. Chapter three looks at the soteriology of P.T. Forsyth and Chapter Four details his kenotic theory. Chapter Five addresses the problem of appropriation as expressed through the writings of Paul Fiddes a contemporary theologian. Chapter Six summarizes what we have learned from the other essays and lays out how we might now speak about atonement. --From the Introduction I warmly recommend this book to all who wish to reflect earnestly and joyfully on the heart of the Christian Gospel. May the Cross of the crucified and risen Savior ever be at the center of our worship service evangelism and ecumenism. --Allen P. F.
