When will I see my mummy?: 1 (Shanice & Susie)

Soon. How many times have you told a child soon or been told soon by someone else? How long is soon? One minute or two? I think you would agree there is not always an answer. Sometimes soon means I dont know. Susie is separated from her mummy whilst she seeks treatment for her mental wellbeing. When Susie asks when she will see her she is told soon quite often. Yet soon does not seem to come. Susie never learns how long soon is but she does come to understand soon means she will definitely see her mummy again. This is a story exploring a theme and concept many children experience including the ways in which different adults may choose to respond.
