About The Book

Surface observations and upper air sounding at the southern region of Iraq had shown the existence of wind maxima with low – level jet stream characteristics few hundred meters from the surface of the earth extending over Northern Arabian Gulf. The LLJ study is focused on the large amount of vertical wind shear associated with them and the unpredictable supergeostrophic wind speed they have. The Low – level wind maxima are significant for transport of dust and pollutants and aviation operations. An effort was made to analyze classify and to predict field characteristics of the boundary layer in the region and to study the current understanding of local Low – Level Jet stream behavior and their spatial and temporal variability.According to stability and similarity scheme Radiosonde data was analyzed to classify boundary layer conditions and the transitions among these conditions. The book is important for professional weather forecasting aviation operations as it deteriorates horizontal and vertical visibility. Also the turbulence associated with these wind maxima is important for wind energy projects. Theoretical meteorologists may also interested with the dynamical treatment
