With Peary Near the Pole

Eivind Astrup was twice a member on Peary''s Greenland expeditions. He describes their epic journey across the ice-cap to the unexplored north coast but first and foremost this is an account of a people living in the high arctic who had hardly had contact with the world of the kabluna the white men. Astrup has written an engaging and engaged book. His empathy with his arctic friends is clear and he describes with wit and charm their daily life both with his words and with his many drawings and photographs. He gives us a fascinating insight into a way of life long gone.
