About The Book

Alfred Henry Lewis was a former prosecuting attorney in Cleveland who went west traveling through New Mexico Arizona and Western Texas where he met the characters who would later write about. He became a newspaper editor for Mora County Pioneer in New Mexico. He moved to Kansas City to practice law again and found a knack for telling western stories. Encouraged to write them down he wrote a story called The Cattleman for the Kansas City Times which became the inspiration for his Wolfville series. In 1893 Lewis met Col. Roosevelt a Civil Service Commisioner who encouraged him to gather his stories together and publish them in book form.
