About The Book

The first comprehensive survey of women and mass communications to be attempted on an international scale this bibliography systematically lists and annotates every type of literature on the subject. Each geographical area is organized according to six main topics: general studies historical studies women''s media images of women in the media women as an audience and women as mass media professionals.The media represented include book magazine and newspaper publishing; radio; television; film; and video as well as affiliated areas such as advertising public relations and wire services. The introduction provides a history of the literature information on data bases searched and a summary of principal international findings. The first chapter lists materials that are global in perspective such as comparative analyses non-country specific material special issues of journals and edited volumes. Five chapters deal with specific geographic regions. A final chapter devoted to the United States has been expanded to encompass advertising public relations broadcasting film and print media under each of the six main topics.
